Midmark Device Interfaces on Amazing Charts in the Cloud (VAC)
What a Midmark interface is, how it connects to Amazing Charts, and how to activate it and install MMAC, IQlicense, and the device plugins on a VAC server.

What are Midmark interfaces?
Midmark manufactures medical, dental, and veterinary devices that healthcare professionals use when caring for their patients. Some of these devices interface directly with Amazing Charts, which lets a practice save the report from a test performed on the device into the patient's medical record.
Common terminology
| Term | What it means |

| ECG | Short for electrocardiogram, a test that records and graphs the electrical signals generated by the heart. Also called an EKG. The Midmark ECG is the diagnostic tool that records the data from the test. |
| Spirometer | A diagnostic device that measures how much air the patient can breathe in and out. It records the data from a spirometry test. |
| Holter | A small, wearable device that records the heart's rhythm the way an ECG does. An ECG tests during a short window; a Holter is worn for several days at a time, so it produces more detailed data. |
| Vitals device | A machine that records a patient's vital signs, including pulse rate, height, weight, blood pressure, and temperature. |
| MMAC | Midmark for Amazing Charts. Our internal software that connects Amazing Charts to a supported Midmark device. |
| IQx | Midmark uses "IQ" as a prefix across their products. It is simply the name they gave their services, plug-ins, and programs, for example IQecg and IQlicense. |
| License Server | A Midmark application that runs on a computer in the practice's network and verifies the practice has purchased the correct licenses. It does not have to be on the same computer as the Amazing Charts main, but it does need to be on a computer in the same network as the main. |
How Midmark devices interface with Amazing Charts
Every supported Midmark device uses the same backend technology to connect to Amazing Charts, but each device is unique in how it is used and what data gets saved to the chart. Both the Midmark software and the Amazing Charts software have to be configured to work with each other before the practice gets the functionality they are looking for.
On the Amazing Charts side, we install Midmark for Amazing Charts (MMAC). This installs the framework that the Midmark software uses to provide device connectivity. MMAC needs to be installed on the VAC server that runs Amazing Charts for any practice that needs Midmark functionality, whether they are viewing existing tests or recording new test reports in the chart.

Next, IQlicense is installed on the VAC server, once Midmark has verified the practice has paid for their licenses and products.

After IQlicense is configured, an IQ plugin provided by Midmark is installed in the MMAC directory. Each device has its own plugin, and a practice may own more than one device, so multiple plugins may be needed.
Once MMAC, IQlicense, and the device plugins are installed, the Midmark device can view past test data and save new test reports into the Imported Items section of a patient's chart.
Order of operations for activation and setup on VAC
Two companies each have to install their own proprietary software, so setting up a new Midmark device involves several tasks. The order can vary.

Activating a Midmark interface in Amazing Charts
Open Administrator Options
On the main screen of Amazing Charts, click View → Administrator Options and log in.
Click Interfaces
In Administrative Options, click Interfaces under Interoperability & Data Exchange.
Find the Midmark interface in the list
The interface list shows every interface we offer, grouped by type, along with any the client has already activated. Midmark interfaces are in the Equipment/Hardware category. Scroll to the one you are activating and double-click its name to open its settings window.
Enter the activation code and save
In the interface settings window, enter the activation code the client received after purchase, then click Save.
Repeat, then restart Amazing Charts
Repeat this process for each device the client is activating. Once everything is saved, restart Amazing Charts for the changes to take effect.
Installing Midmark for Amazing Charts (MMAC) on VAC
Copy the installer to the D: drive
Copy the MMAC installer from the P: drive in the VAC environment to the D: drive, then unblock it: right-click → Properties → Unblock.
Open Task Manager as your L2 user
Shift + right-click Task Manager → Run as different user.
Launch the installer from Task Manager
In Task Manager, click File → Run and browse to the MMAC installer you copied to the D: drive.
You may need to select All files in the file browser before the .msi file appears.
Click Next on the welcome screen
Leave the install directory at the default
Keep the destination folder as C:\Program Files (x86)\MidmarkForAmazingCharts\ and click Next.
Install and finish
Click Install, and click Finish once it completes.
Installing IQlicense on VAC
Create the Midmark folder
Open the D: drive and create a new folder named Midmark.
Copy and unblock the EMR Installers package
Amazing Charts Support already has the EMR Installer 10.1 software package on the P: drive. Copy the 4-100-3016 EMR Installers zip into the Midmark folder you just created, then unblock it: right-click → Properties → Unblock.
Unzip the package
Extract the EMR Installers zip into the D:\Midmark folder.
Run the IQlicense installer
Run the installer from an elevated Task Manager, using the default selections throughout.
Activate the customer licenses
Open the Server Activation Utility at C:\Program Files (x86)\Midmark\Midmark IQlicense\MdgSvrAct.exe.
Enter each Activation ID one at a time, include the count for that ID, and click Activate. Repeat for every Activation ID.
Start or restart the IQlicense service
Run services.msc from Task Manager as administrator, then start or restart the Midmark IQlicense service.
Installing the Midmark Framework
Launch the Framework installer
Launch the Midmark Framework launcher from Task Manager.
Set the install directory
Change the install directory to C:\Program Files (x86)\MidmarkForAmazingCharts.
Installing the device plugins
Install only the plugins for the devices the customer owns. Every installer lives under the EMR Installers folder you unzipped earlier, and every plugin installs into its own folder inside the MMAC directory.
