What to Check When You Can’t Send EPCS Prescriptions
If controlled substance prescriptions (EPCS) won’t go through, the cause is usually a missing EPCS PIN or an expired annual subscription. Here’s how to check both.
Before you begin
| Applies to | Providers who send controlled substance prescriptions electronically from Amazing Charts |
| Time needed | About 5 minutes, plus up to 24 hours for a renewal to process |
| What you need | Your 4-digit EPCS PIN. If you need to renew, a credit card and a billing email address. |
| Cost to renew | $250 per provider, per year |
Part 1: Check your EPCS PIN
Open User Preferences
On the main Amazing Charts screen, go to the menu bar at the top and click Edit > My Preferences > User Preferences. You can also press Ctrl+U to open it directly.
Confirm your EPCS PIN is entered
On the left side of the window, click Prescriptions. At the top, in the EPCS section, look at the EPCS PIN (4-digits) field.
If the field is empty, type your 4-digit PIN and click Save Changes in the lower right corner. Then try sending the prescription again.
Part 2: Check your EPCS subscription
If your PIN is already there, the next thing to check is whether your annual EPCS subscription has expired.
Click EPCS Setup
Stay on the Prescriptions tab of User Preferences and click the EPCS Setup button at the top. This opens the Electronic Prescribing EPCS Setup page.
Open EPCS Subscription
Under Subscription Services, click EPCS Subscription.
Check your End Date
Find your name in the list and look at the End Date column. If that date is in the future, your subscription is active.
If the date has passed, you’ll need to renew. Check the box next to your name, then click Pay Now. The annual fee is $250 per provider.
Choose a payment option and pay
Pick one of the two payment options:
- Subscribe with automatic renewal. Your card is saved and charged each year.
- Make one-time payment. Your card is not saved, so you’ll renew manually next year.
Fill in the two required fields, Billing Email Address and Card number, then click Pay.
After you pay
Payments take up to 24 hours to process. You won’t be able to send EPCS prescriptions until it goes through.
If you can’t wait, email our eRx vendor, Ensora Rx, at erx.support@ensorahealth.com and ask them to push the payment through manually. They’ll email you back once it's approved.
