CMS133v13: Cataracts: 20/40 or Better Visual Acuity within 90 Days Following Cataract Surgery

 

Percentage of cataract surgeries for patients aged 18 and older with a diagnosis of uncomplicated cataract and no significant ocular conditions impacting the visual outcome of surgery and had best-corrected visual acuity of 20/40 or better (distance or near) achieved in the operative eye within 90 days following the cataract surgery

Numerator

Cataract surgeries with best-corrected visual acuity of 20/40 or better (distance or near) achieved in the operative eye within 90 days following cataract surgery

 

Record vision with a score of 20/40 or better, in the expanded vitals area. To do this, follow these directions:

  • In the Most Recent Encounter section, click on the “More” button to the left of the vitals
  • click the "miscellaneous" tab.
  • Enter the results under the Vision area.

Denominator

All cataract surgeries performed between January and September of the measurement period for patients aged 18 years and older.

  • To record a cataract surgery In the "assessment", "plan", or "past medical history" field sections, free text the phrase "Cataract Surgery Performed ". 

  • This phrase must be added to a visit between January and September of the measurement period to count

Exclusions:

Cataract surgeries in patients with significant ocular conditions impacting the visual outcome of surgery.

  • recorded by Diagnosis added in the patient’s problem list.
