How to Set the Default Ordering Provider in Amazing Charts

Every time you place an order in a patient's chart, Amazing Charts asks who it should be sent to. If your practice usually sends a certain type of order to the same person or group — for example, all nursing orders go to your nursing team — you can set that as the default so it's already filled in.

This is a practice-wide setting, and each order category (Nursing, Labs, Imaging, Referrals, Follow-Up, Patient Ed, and Diagnostics) has its own default. You'll set it once per category, and it applies to every patient going forward.

Step by step

In the Administrative Options window, scroll to the Practice-Wide Preferences section near the bottom and click Define Orders & Order Sets (outlined in red below).

4

Pick the order category and choose who it goes to

Across the top of the Orders screen you'll see a row of tabs, one for each order category (outlined in red below): Nursing, Labs, Imaging, Referrals, Follow-Up, Patient Ed, and Diagnostics. Click the tab for the type of order you want to set a default for.

Then, next to Select to whom will these type of orders usually be sent, open the dropdown and choose the provider, user, or group you want these orders to go to. In the example below, Nursing orders are being set to go to a specific nurse, "Nursing, O."

You can choose an individual person or a group. A name like GROUPBOX, [NURSING] sends orders to everyone in that group; a name like Nursing, O [NURSING] sends them to one specific person.
5

Click Save

In the bottom-right corner of the window, click Save to apply your change.

6

Repeat for any other order categories

Each tab (Nursing, Labs, Imaging, and so on) has its own separate default. If you want to set more than one, click the next tab, choose the recipient, and click Save again before closing the window.

7

Check that it worked

Open any patient's chart and go to the Orders screen. The Send selected orders to field should now default to the person or group you chose.

I don't know the Administrator Options password Ask whoever manages Amazing Charts at your practice. If no one has it, contact Technical Support.
The person or group I want isn't in the dropdown The dropdown only shows existing Amazing Charts users and groups. Contact support if a new user or group needs to be set up first.
The default still shows the old provider Double-check you clicked Save while on the correct tab. Each order category (Nursing, Labs, etc.) saves separately.
I changed it, but a different provider still shows for some patients This default applies going forward. Orders already started before the change keep whatever was selected at the time.
