Tips and Tricks: Creating Lab Labels

Have you ever needed to print lab labels for a patient sample in of Amazing Charts? To create these labels, use the following steps:

  1. Look up the patient by Chart ID, First Name, Last Name, or Birthdate in the Patient List lookup fields on the Amazing Charts Main Dashboard (Schedule Page).
  2. Right click on the patient’s name in the search window.
  3. Choose the Print option from the dropdown menu.
  4. Choose the Notes & Letters option in the menu that opens.
  5. The Letter writer will open.
  6. Click the To Patient option and then click Compose Letter.

7. On the left side of the Letter Writer window, click the Add / Edit Templates button. 

8. When the Template Editor opens, click the New button. 

9. Choose the Page Layout tab from the top Menu. 

10. Click the Size button from the list of options at the top. 

11. Choose More Paper Sizes option at the bottom of the menu.

12. A Page Setup box will open. Click to open the Paper tab in the middle at the top.
Change the Paper Size box to Custom, and enter the size of the labels you use in your label printer. Click on the OK button.

13. Click in the label template you created and add whatever macros you need from the side menu by clicking on them. (You can click on the Home tab at the top to adjust fonts and center adjust). 

14. Click on the File tab at the top of the screen and click the Save As button. 

15. Enter the name of your label in the name field (i.e. Lab Label), and click the circle next to Patient Letters. 

16. Click the Save button.

17. When you return to the main Letter Writer window, your labels will now be available in the dropdown for Selected Templates. Choose the Label template, and your label will be shown. 

18. Click the File tab and then the Print button to print your labels. Your printer window should show an option for # of labels.

Please note: Once the template for labels is created, it is available for all patients. When printing labels for patients from the Letter Writer, complete steps 1-6 and then skip to steps 17 & 18.
